Table Discussion for the National Convention
“Legal Reforms to Suit the Modern Philippines”
"The love of rationalistic simplification . . . leads people to think that in the mere technicalities of law they possess the means and the power to effect unlimited changes . . . [Such an illusion is] cherished by lawyers who imagine that, by drafting new constitutions and laws they can begin the work of history all over again, and know nothing of the force of traditions, habits, associations, and institutions.“ ~ Guido de Ruggiero, Law Reform
Well-functioning justice systems are a key component of the Rule of Law. That is why reforms of justice systems have become an important area of development cooperation....Courts are obviously the key. Legal reforms may not mean drafting of new laws since these by itself may also be insufficient.
It calls for Reform of the institution that create, apply and enforce the law as necessary...this equally demands commitment on the acts of the system, particularly that of the judges, lawyers as officers of the court and the law students who are expected to devote their time in learning the law and its application towards a transitioning government in this modern times...

ALSP is gathering pieces of evidence to help in the Supreme Court probe. Please help!
As you might have read in the papers ALSP is part of the Supreme Court body probing the Salubong 2010 Blast. During one of our meetings held earlier today it has been mentioned that ALSP (both regional and national) should take the initiative to help in the investigation.
In this light, The ALSP is collecting any picture or video that you might have taken 15 minutes before or after the blast.
It is preferable if your picture or video is focused on the blast site (anywhere between the LRT station and the gate of lasalle).
This might be helpful in solving the case.
You can send the picture or video to alsphilippines@gmail.com, please indicate your name, address, contact number, and the estimated time you took the picture or video. ALSP assures you that your privacy will be protected and everything is absolutely confidential.
PS: please repost this message or link in your social networking site. Thank you!

ALSP – NCR met with ten law schools in Metro Manila to discuss the Salubong 2010 Blast
The ALSP – National Capital Region met with various law schools, earlier today, to discuss what the Regional Board can do for the Salubong 2010 blast victims. The agenda for the meeting was: 1) The status of the victims; 2) The needs of the victims, short term and long term; 3) and the role of the Regional Board in helping the victims.
University of the Philippines (UP-Law) and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU-Law), as represented by their Tim P. Guanzon and Mr. Ricasata, gave a well planned and detailed platform on how to raise funds to help the victims of the blast. The UP-Law studentry will hold a benefit run; and AdMU-Law will hold a benefit concert.
San Beda College – Mendiola, represented by its law student government (LSG) President – Jam del Rosario, volunteered to conduct a coin-for-a-cause type of fund raising.
San Sebastian College - Recoletos de Manila, as represented by Missy Monterubio and Frampton A. Tamin, will be organizing a poker game, the proceeds of which shall be given to the victims.
The event was held in the Bernas Center of AdMU-Law and it was covered by the Inquirer and GMA 7.
Attendees:
- Richard Perez, Philippine Law School
- Micheal Munsayas, Philippine Law School

The Association of Law Students of the Philippines speaks up regarding the Salubong 2010 Blast.
The Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP), Inc. is a federation of 67 law schools in the country formally established in 1989. It is one of the founding member-countries of the Asian Law Students Association, which has partnership with the European and Australian Law Students Association and International Law Students Association based in Washington, D.C. and an accredited organization by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and a registered association with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
STATEMENT
We, the Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP), Inc. strongly condemn the unwarranted, malicious, intentional and willful act of bombing that transpired during the Fourth Sunday of the recent Bar Examinations where the Salubong was held. A grandiose tradition practiced and expected throughout the years by law schools, law students and barristers, as well as well-wishers, was ruined only by the malevolent act of unscrupulous individuals who speak ill of life’s importance and moral values.
We extend our utmost sympathy towards the victims of this unfortunate event. As much as we would like to commiserate with the victims, what we can do is to encourage the law students around the country not to falter in their desire to become lawyers and to be able to boost the morale of our fellow law students.
We support the conduct of a quick, efficient, and thorough investigation by the proper authorities. We are for the facts and the law. Furthermore, we implore the authorities to take the proper measures to prevent any senseless act of violence from ever taking place.
It is our resolve that we must promote and strengthen the unity and peace between and among all law schools and all law students around the country, so as to avoid the occurrence of such incident in the future.
In the service of the Filipino law students,
ASSOCIATION OF LAW STUDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES
