The Association of Law Students of the Philippines speaks up regarding the Salubong 2010 Blast.

The Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP), Inc. is a federation of 67 law schools in the country formally established in 1989.  It is one of the founding member-countries of the Asian Law Students Association, which has partnership with the European and Australian Law Students Association and International Law Students Association based in Washington, D.C. and an accredited organization by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and a registered association with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

STATEMENT

We, the Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP), Inc. strongly condemn the unwarranted, malicious, intentional and willful act of bombing that transpired during the Fourth Sunday of the recent Bar Examinations where the Salubong was held. A grandiose tradition practiced and expected throughout the years by law schools, law students and barristers, as well as well-wishers, was ruined only by the malevolent act of unscrupulous individuals who speak ill of life’s importance and moral values.

We extend our utmost sympathy towards the victims of this unfortunate event. As much as we would like to commiserate with the victims, what we can do is to encourage the law students around the country not to falter in their desire to become lawyers and to be able to boost the morale of our fellow law students.

We support the conduct of a quick, efficient, and thorough investigation by the proper authorities. We are for the facts and the law. Furthermore, we implore the authorities to take the proper measures to prevent any senseless act of violence from ever taking place.

It is our resolve that we must promote and strengthen the unity and peace between and among all law schools and all law students around the country, so as to avoid the occurrence of such incident in the future.

In the service of the Filipino law students,

ASSOCIATION OF LAW STUDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
